hi Guys just to clear something up, Joe has been dealing with something in private that I won't disclose since the start of the season, well actually before that goes some way as the reason why he's not been in the team but he's fine! , doesn't reflect how he's been training or whatever, Matip would be playing now regardless of how good he's been (I know he's injured but you get my point) The sterling thing has not made anything easier but these things happen. Cheers.

Liverpool's Joe Gomez in perfect position to prove lofty prediction right

The Reds have kept six clean sheets in their last seven matches in all competitions, with Gomez starting all of them as he looks to retake a position he used to own

Speaking in the matchday programme, Henderson told: "It wasn't that long ago there was a lot of focus on our lack of clean sheets. I can tell you now that mattered to all of us, not just the defenders. Our expectation of ourselves was to do better in that area and we have seen an improvement. But we don't feel content about it - we want more.

"Set a standard, meet it, then look to exceed it. Never stop focusing on what we can do better. That's our mantra.

"An individual who has embodied that recently for us has been Joe Gomez. The start to his season wasn't straightforward. He had setbacks to contend with and challenges to face.

"We all know what a massive talent Joe is, but at this level it's also about perseverance. It's meant the world to all of us to see how he's stepped up yet again and is playing with such confidence and control.

"Joe isn't someone who is bothered about individual praise and he'll be the first to say that, in terms of contribution to the team, he has even more to give.

"But I think his situation is a great example to any player that hard work and only hard work is the path to achieving something special - be it as a person or a team.

"Regardless of all the external talk around us at this moment, I can promise Liverpool supporters that we won't change our approach at any point during this campaign.

"Until the very last kick of the very last game our only objective is to be better in the next match than we were in the one before it.

"It's been an attitude that's served us well until now and there is no chance we're going to change it."

Impressive return to form for Joe Gomez underlined by incredible statistics

Haven’t you heard? When Joe Gomez plays, Liverpool don’t concede. The 22-year-old has rediscovered top form recently to re-win a place in the team.

It’s now well over two years since Gomez was part of a losing team in the league, and while some of that is down to being injured or not selected on specific occasions, it highlights the monolithic standing he has in the side.

Squawka Football

@Squawka
35 games. 30 wins. 5 draws.

Joe Gomez has not lost a Premier League game since 22nd January 2018. 😳

In the first 23 games as a pairing, the Gomez-Van Dijk axis has conceded just five goals.

They, along with Ali, are the base that the success of the side stems from.

The colossus and the kid: Liverpool reaping the benefits with Virgil van Dijk & Joe Gomez

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have emerged as Liverpool’s top pairing at centre-back, but the colossus and the kid are only just getting started.

Joe Gomez‘s last Premier League defeat at Anfield came against West Ham in 2015, fast-forward over four years and he is now an integral member of Liverpool’s world-conquering side.
